O Little Town of Bethlehem

歌詞は米フィラデルフィアの教会の教区牧師フィリップ・ブルックス Phillips Brooks (1835–1893)によって1868年に書かれました．3年前にベツレヘムを訪問した印象を基に作詞しました．

曲つけは同教会のオルガン奏者件，音楽家の ルイス・レンドナー Lewis Redner(1831-1908)によってなされ，「St. Louis」名付けられましたが，O Little Town of Bethlehemとして世に広まりました．

本メロディーはForest Greenからとられていますが，元は英国のfolk balladである，The Ploughboy's Dreamというメロディから来ています．
